Schlage Knobs and Levers make the Grade
Schlage residential knobs, levers, and handlesets have been engineered to meet and exceed a long list of severe test conditions. Such tests are designed to replicate a number of real world conditions, in order to determine the suitability of a lock for various applications.
ANSI/BHMA (American National Standards Institute/ Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association) conduct the tests under standard A156.2-2003. Tests and required results in this standard include operational, finish, security and cycle requirements. Product Grades are defined by progressive benchmarks in the given tests, with Grade 1 being the highest level of performance.
Residential F/FA-series knobs, levers and handlesets meet and exceed Grade 2 requirements. These “heavy-duty” residential grade products are required to meet double the standards of Grade 3 locksets (which are engineered to just meet the minimum standards, and command a low price-point). Schlage also makes Grade 1 knobs and levers for demanding commercial applications such as airports, hospitals, and educational institutions.
The chart below illustrates why up-selling a residential customer from a Grade 3, to a Grade 2 lockset is always a good idea. Click the chart to view a larger version
